Munson Creek Spruce
Brought to our attention and measured by Jerry Black, an Oregon big tree enthusiast, is a tall Sitka spruce not far from Munsen Creek Falls. After adding up the points, we found that this tree would actually place as the second largest known Sitka spruce in Oregon.
By Jerry's measurements, the Munsen Creek Spruce is 280 feet tall with a trunk circumference of 33 feet. However, the circumference may be larger due to large logs against the back and side that made it difficult to measure at exactly 4.5'. Despite having many characteristics of a younger tree, such as healthy foliage to wood ratio and an intact top, its very large trunk and slow taper suggest that it is a true giant in waiting. We just have to be patient for the next hundred or so years.
